An evening walk anytime over spring and summer along Bree Street yields a familiar sight as the terrace of Orphanage fills with bearded hipsters and leggy ladies holding pretty, frilly-stemmed drinks. A throwback mixology bar you'd expect to find in London's Shoreditch or NY's LES comes to life in one of Cape Town's trendiest neighborhood. Inside, the space is divided between a well-staffed bar lined in dapper barmen that pour up drinks muddled with intricate concoctions from peanut butter to tea with lounge area that doubles as a dance floor on weekend nights. In the center of it all, a DJ presides over the center of room with moody soundtrack of indie anthems through 3am.
Tips
During the week expect a late-evening crowd that picks up around 10pm, weekends it’s best after 11pm and lingers past 2am especially on hot summer nights.
